Aug 7, 2010 - It's a glorified 2CV engine, made for diesel instead of petrol... :P

fumar994 Says:

Aug 13, 2010 - This is an exact copy of the old aircooled vw beetle engine!, the probem with the design is that all vw engines wear out oval where the crankshaft passes through the casing, this took several years with the petrol engine, can you imagine the stresses involved in a diesel,i think the idea is to lower your tipping point but the engine does not look to have time on its side, the engine will develope major oil leaks and low oil pressure early in its life unless the crankcases are massively beefed up

fumar994 Says:

Aug 13, 2010 - Some of you bumble on about spark plugs?,the explosion is caused by vaporised diesel being compressed onto a sharp point on the injector, that is the whole premis of the diesel engine if you add spark plugs its something else? and i dont know what that is?

Aug 21, 2010 - If someone could answer my question i would greatly appreciate it.true boxer engines reach TDC simultaniously correct? then what is the name for the flat engines that reach TDC at opposed times? e.g. as one piston is on intake one is on compression.and also what is the benfits and negatives of either system?thank you.

thesniperofcs Says:

Aug 26, 2010 - @toufelhunden1 not true ,, the boxer engines torque is the best everthe flat engine have more power than any engine shap

12valvepower1 Says:

Aug 26, 2010 - my wrx is gutless down low .on boost is great

DAF460 Says:

Aug 26, 2010 - why not make an inline or v config cos that looks stupid

druchivld Says:

Aug 27, 2010 - @DAF460 the they are layed like that to reduce the vibration. The on;y vibration you feel is from the a/c unit, and it lasts a few seconds, every few minutes while standing still.

lemonchewy1 Says:

Aug 28, 2010 - @DAF460 this setup is more ballanced .. inlines are the least ballanced because all the pistons are pushing one direction on the crank and v is slightly better but this would be the best if you could work out the bugs

DAF460 Says:

Aug 28, 2010 - @lemonchewy1 oh i see ya its true inlines vibrate alot

GarrettKeetley Says:

Aug 28, 2010 - if you want a diesel you buy german

lemonchewy1 Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @DAF460 They aren't to bad its just a better balanced engine is more efficient and can be ran to higher rpm's. I tried designing an engine similar to this one just with a different cam setup where there was only 4 lobes and it was a sohc. The cams were supposed to be just as balanced as the rest of the engine. I am going to be an engineer and i will actually get to build these types of things! haha

DAF460 Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @lemonchewy1 oh good luck with your designing and sohc is that over head cam?

MDIVISIONRULES Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @lemonchewy1 plus boxer means lower center of gravity.

MDIVISIONRULES Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @DAF460 Single Over Head Cam i think

MDIVISIONRULES Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - When air is compressed it heats up a lot.So the pistons compress air up to a point and then fuel is injected, and the mix is ignited on its own, without the need of spark.Correct?

DAF460 Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @MDIVISIONRULES ahh that would make alot of sence! :P

lemonchewy1 Says:

Aug 30, 2010 - @MDIVISIONRULES yeah thats the idea of a diesel. no spark plugs and much higher compression to get the type of pressure needed to ignite the fuel

turbofanman1 Says:

Sep 1, 2010 - they called it a boxer engine because of porchas mid engine configuration. its actually called a horizontally opposed engine. same like the ones in small piston driven aircrafts...

snaxalotl Says:

Sep 2, 2010 - @turbofanman1 some people call all HOEs boxers, and some only use the term when the pistons on one side are out of phase; so it's arbitrary, but the term still refers to piston movement

snaxalotl Says:

Sep 2, 2010 - the swirl is going in the wrong direction

gilessmokey Says:

Sep 4, 2010 - @FiredUpZ28 diesel engines can be either direct or indirect injection. indirect is going out of fashon though on road vehicles

masacru69 Says:

Sep 5, 2010 - Diesel Engines don't eaven nead a spark this in an petrol based engine

skaterXboy1995 Says:

Sep 6, 2010 - @masacru69 you are retarded ,if you look closely the "sparkplugs" are not sparking because they arnt sparkpugs they are glowplugs and the are needed in diesel engines to start them ...only to start them ,but ur kinda right because diesels are comprestion motors so once the glowplugs start the motor they are no longer needed for the motor to run...

ctac86 Says:

Sep 6, 2010 - @mascaru69 and @skaterXboy1995 If you look even more closely you'll realize that these in fact are not the so called glow-plugs but the injectors that injects the fuel !!!
